Daily Article - Any opinions?

Date January 22, 2008

Sometimes you need something to fill in the gaps between work. My first choice recommendation used to be Associated Content, but their pay has decreased in the past year so much that I wonder if it is worth it.

There may be a new solution for when you have an article to sell and need a marketplace. Daily Article (www.dailyarticle.com) looks pretty promising. According to the FAQ, a writer submits an article to their marketplace, sets their own price and then the buyer has full ownership of the article once they purchase an article.

Founded in the Fall of 2007, the site is pretty new. There seems to be a lot of writers who have content there, but I wonder about the rate of buying. Looking at the Alexa rankings, the site has some work to do with building up their traffic and popularity with buyers. A search for “buy articles” on Google shows no signs of the site. There are only 3 adwords ads so some Pay per click marketing may be in order to get the site some visibility.

The fact that the sales are limited to full rights means that you’ll be able to fetch a higher price for your articles. But your chances of selling an article may be low until more buyers are visiting the site. If you are a writer for the site, I’d love to hear how it’s working for you. Are you helping to promote the site and get more buyer traffic? How have your sales been?

The owner of the site seems perfectly nice and from what I hear is good to work with, but I have to say that my experience with the site has been negative. I wrote one article for the site to test the waters. The article was accepted, but it never put on the site. After checking several times, I finally emailed to find out what was going on with it. I never got an answer. I then found out that you have to sign up for the forum, which is a different process than the signing up I had already done, and then open a ticket there to get help. It was several days before I got a response, and the response was never emailed, so I had to just keep checking the site until it was answered.

The answer I got was that it was just an oversight that had been corrected and that the article was now live. It was not. I checked back several times after that and it never went live. Today I finally deleted it from my account and put it up on CC. I wasted a lot of time with DailyArticle and got nothing out of it whatsoever. CC is already established, has plenty of buyers and has never lost one of my articles. I’ve heard that other people have had good experiences there, and that’s great, but I certainly didn’t.

It looks like a pretty good idea, but they need to put those snippets in Java or something non SE readable to protect the content from being indexed and scraped.

It’s an interesting concept - I think that I’ll check into it, but I’m a bit suspicious after what LS said…

I have to agree with LS. I tried to put an article on there, had trouble and sent an email. That was about two weeks ago, and I have never heard back. No communication is not a good sign.

Gotta say, I’m interested, too. Hope it’s just a temporary thing, I’d love to see it take off. I might go post an article myself, just to see if I get a different result.

I have submitted a few articles to the site but unfortunately none of them have been bought. After reading this post, now I know why. I have been slowly taking articles off the site to place in other places…I think I will go ahead and take the rest off.

I did hear someone say on another board that they have sold an article on the site. I wonder if its from their own marketing rather than the site’s marketing.
