Yerba Mate

Caffeine addicts unite! I was never a coffee girl, but darn if I couldn’t start a morning without a Diet Pepsi. I know– gross, right? I was drinking so much soda I wish that Diet Pepsi had bonus points for use.

There are so many things wrong with diet soda, I can’t even begin to name them all. Just look up “aspartame neurotoxin” on Google and your head will be spinning.

The sad part is, I was so addicted I KNEW about the dangers and still continued to drink the stuff.

I’m not a fan of coffee, and green tea makes my stomach hurt, so I had to find a new solution.

Enter Yerba Mate. It’s a “tea like” beverage that is made from plants found in South American rainforests. In addition to being uplifting, it’s also got antioxidants and B vitamins that give you an extra boost.

So two thumbs up! I found my Yerba Mate at Trader Joe’s. If you need some liquid inspiration, give it a try.

  1. Tea? Eww! I can’t start a single day without coffee. Even with every diet I’ve ever been on, I had to compensate by taking away something from it just so I could have coffee in the morning. :)

Hell, my name is Hope, and I’m addicted to coffee….. heehee

  2. I love coffee in the morning and iced tea in the afternoons and evening (all without sugar of course). Plenty of antioxidants and easy to make. I have heard of Yerba Mate, just never really considered drinking it.

  3. I love Yerba Mate, but I’ve drifted away from it as a drink. Thanks for reminding me. I still love my coffee, but I’ve been working on getting the artificial sweeteners out of my diet. Neurotoxins no more!

(Now where did I put my Mate gourd?)

  4. I love Yerba Mate! But some brands are better than others, and my favorite brand has to be mail ordered… thanks for reminding me! That can go on my Christmas list.

I highly recommend a few drops of stevia in your Mate, but I tend to recommend a few drops of stevia in everything.

  5. I love Stevia too! :) I don’t know why I never put it in the Yerba Mate. I need to try that on my next cup.

  6. I’d love to know what you think (of stevia in the Yerba Mate). I was so addicted to stevia at one point that I was putting it in plain water since I was drinking too much tea.
