Getting in “the mood”
July 18, 2007
No matter what type of writing you’re doing, it’s a creative process. Creativity isn’t like a faucet that you can just turn off and on….or at least it isn’t at first. When you work at home, you’ve got to squeeze in work here and there and be “turned on” to write when you can.
Here are my tips for getting ready to write on demand:
*Just start writing. Promise yourself you’ll write for 10 minutes without stopping. You can always edit later.
*Plan your work ahead of time so you know exactly what you need to get accomplished when you have a chance. This way you’ll save time but jumping right into your work.
*Check your e-mail 3 times a day…and that’s IT! This has been the hardest for me, but when I do it I end up getting so much more done. Instead of opening up g-mail “for just a minute” before I start writing, I just check in at noon, 4 pm and 8 pm.
