Happy Kids of a Happy Web Writer

There is never enough time to do all of the things that you want to do each day. When you add children and a work at home writing career, there’s even less time.

Here are my top tips for keeping balance at home, and keeping your business afloat:

-Do what it takes to get the job done, but keep your kids your top priority.  It sometimes takes a lot of coffee (well green tea in my case!) to be there for my kids and get my work done. If I have to choose between spending time with them during the day and working, being a mom wins. But that means that I work late nights, early mornings and naptimes so I can get everything done.

-Take time outside and away from the house. It may seem simple enough, but sometimes I’ll get wrapped up in the normal humdrum of family life, and trying to get a project done at the same time and then realize I haven’t been outside in a few days. The triple digit temperatures where we live haven’t helped a whole lot with trying to go outside. But incorporating an evening walk with the kids has been a great way to spend quality time to bond and break out of old patterns.

-Give your children something to do while you work. If you do have to work while they are awake, give them a special toy or activity that they can do beside you. My toddler has her “own computer” (a LeapPad with audio) that she plays with when I have to jump on the laptop through the day.
