Squidoo and Web Presence

Date May 24, 2007

In my opinion, Squidoo is the hottest thing since sliced bread. I love how easy it is to make a webpage. I like the layout. I love the community. But it seems like some are missing the point.

I recently ran across a conversation about Squidoo on a message board. The writers were lamenting that their Squidoo lenses weren’t making any money, and it didn’t seem to be worth it. If they had to market these lenses, they said, why not just market their own websites.

I’ve never seen Squidoo as an opportunity to make money from the lens itself. I have a few dollars in my Squidoo “account” but that’s just a free Diet Pepsi next week…it’s nothing to write home about. I think people who are looking to make money soley from the lens are missing the point.

A Squidoo lens is an simple to make, easy to update, FREE webpage that Google loves. My Squidoo lens for a few sites ranks higher than the website itself.

If you don’t have your own website to market your skills, Squidoo is a perfect solution. Brand yourself as a web writer and create a lens that showcases your talent. Post links to where you’re published or add recommendations from previous clients. Take a look at my lens. This lens has provided me with leads from within the Squidoo community, and also from google searches. It’s given me a quick and easy webpage without dealing with HTML. Frankly, before I found Squidoo I was procrastinating on making a website. Once I started my lens it took about 30 minutes to have web presence.

Squidoo is here to stay and when you use it right, it can make you a lot of money!

Thank you for this post. A while back I actually had an article published on Squidoo, but I never knew there was this much to the site. I have a blog, but not a website. This might be the perfect thing for me. I’m going to look into it more. Thanks again!

You know, I’ve tried to create a lens twice and never knew what to put on it, so I just quit both times. Maybe I need to go give it another shot. :)
