PLR Resource List
Continuing with last week’s “theme” of sorts, I’ve put together some resources that you’ll need to get your PLR selling off to a great start.
A lot of people have asked me whether or not they need a website. It’s not absolutely necessary, but once you develop a few packages, it’s a good idea to put them all in one place. I’d recommend getting a domain name instead of relying on a free site. I use Namecheap to register my domains.
For hosting, I use Hostgator and their Baby plan, which is $9.99 a month for unlimited domains. Can’t beat that with a stick!
If you need some great web design for an affordable price, I recommend Amber at Lovely, Lucrative Websites. She has tips on how to create your own website with ease, but also is a web designer herself and is available for hire.
To find hot niches, I use Niche A Day (www.nicheaday.com). It’s a free service that send you just what it promises…a new niche each day. Some are great, some are not. I’ve also recently discovered a few new niche finding tools.
Try visiting 43 Things, my Goals or Clickbank for niche ideas. Then hit a keyword search tool to figure out if the topic is popular. Since you’re writing to sell the content, you don’t really need to worry about how much competition a keyword is experiencing, like you would if you were marketing the site yourself.
Then for selling your PLR, go to The Warrior Forum. There are several other marketing forums you can try, but this is the best.

Just a small note - PLR articles are frowned upon by almost all legitimate freelance writers. They are considered cheap labor that brings down the writing market’s reputation.
I certainly don’t promote PLR articles. Writers have unique skills and talent that makes them professionals. PLR copy makes a mockery of those skills.
Thanks for sharing your opinion! I understand that a lot of freelance writers from different markets don’t understand what my particular market is looking for.
I guess that if creating unique content in addition to providing PLR here and there makes me “illegitimate” I’d rather keep doing what I’m doing and making more per word.
I have to disagree with you, James. It totally depends on what context you’re using. I am a professional writer with quite a bit of experience, and I don’t think *some* PLR makes a mockery of my skills.
Granted, there are tons of PLR sites out there that sell nothing but crap. However, there are professional WEB writers, such as Courtney and I, who write, sell, AND use PLR regularly. The difference is quality and use.
If you purchase a huge stash of junk PLR and try to use it as is, then of course, it’s not going to work for you. However, if you read through the great tips Courtney’s been providing here, or do a little bit of research, you’ll find that there are some big-name IMers using PLR all the time.
I guess I do agree with you to a certain extent, in that *some* PLR out there is nothing but junk. But don’t knock the quality PLR content that you can find through professional writers, such as I.
No. PLR articles don’t make a mockery of anything. I write plr, in fact I have a membership site where I sell plr ebooks and articles. I write freelance. I ghostwrite. And I’m the author of four commercially published books under my own name.

I’m not saying that any of you are bad writers or low quality writers - let’s clear that up right now.
However, PLR articles are a means to perpetuate the Internet with content that is hashed, rehashed, rehashed and rehashed until there is so much of the same thing that it’s like walking through molasses trying to find the Olympic torch.
Ghostwrite, fine. Go ahead. I do that myself. But by reselling the same content over and over, you bog down the Internet with duplicate content and provide nothing new of value to the bigger scheme of things.
There is more to being a writer than just making money. There is pride, honor, and integrity. By taking something someone else wrote, switching it around a bit, rewriting a word here and there, and republishing it… wow. Sorry guys, you’ll have to do a better job to convince me that PLR is a GOOD thing for both writers and for the Internet as a whole.
I am not the only one with this view. EzineArticles, one of the biggest article directories - and the most respected - absolutely does not promote PLR articles in any way. They have refused submission of articles that promote PLR articles.
Why not put your energies into original content? It pays much more, it sells well and it maintains a good level of integrity for the writing profession?
You make a lot of false assumptions about PLR content. I’m not going to take the time to convince you or educate you since you’ve obviously found something that works great for you. I’ll just say that rates of return for PLR content are much higher than original content.
Sorry that you don’t understand the business model. Web writing is a new beast for a lot of people, and there are many different ways to make your writing career work online. I and many others are providing a service that a market needs.
Best of luck to you!
Hooray! I just wanted to thank you for such an informative post and series of posts, but I didn’t want to leave the comment on a post with a different subject. You’ve definitely given me a lot to think about for the direction I want to move in with my freelance writing, and PLR is something that I’m going to be looking into further.
As a whole, PLR articles don’t really work for websites that want to stand out from the crowd. But that doesn’t mean they’re not valuable. That’s why we’ve created a list of 101 Things To Do With PLR Articles designed to jump start your brain and get you out of that PLR box. Thanks for the terrific list Nicole! I’m sure a lot of readers will get value from it.
43things is a good site. I had never heard of it before. Thanks for sharing.
