As I stared at another huge receipt for gas in my husband’s car, I began to wonder what my work-related expenses really looked like. Although I’ve been happily puttering around town with the gas light on for the last week, my freelance business is not without expenses. Here they are for August:

Internet access (bundled with our phone and television): approx. $40

Hostgator (web hosting for this site and many others): $10

Aweber (e-mail manager for six lists): $20

Paypal fees: $52.97

Membership sites: $30

Total: $152.97

Technically, the membership sites aren’t absolutely necessary for the business but I bundled them in anyway. And since the Paypal fees come out of the money I’m receiving, I’m not sure if they’d be counted as expenses or just the cost of doing business? (See why I majored in English and not accounting?)

Even with those costs added in, that’s rougly $5.01 per day to be a freelance writer.
