How can I profit from PLR rights?
Today I’d like to take a closer look at creating private label rights products for your customers. When I was first introduced to writing content, I had no idea what PLR was or how it would help me. I worked on writing lots of articles (for very little) and wondered if I could make a living doing this and how quickly I’d be likely to burn out.
The answer was….it didn’t take very long at all to get creatively sapped by SEO articles. Then I discovered the world of PLR in a bonus product for a writing ebook. The bonus report opened my eyes to the concept of writing something once and making multiple sales on the same writing.
Writing articles, reports or ebooks for Private Label rights works best when you’re focused on a general topic. Try to add a spin to the topic, but add enough important information that the buyer can easily flesh out their own unique product. As a PLR writer, your job is to create informative content and act as a “researcher” rather than a ghostwriter.
Private label rights are more valuable to the buyer when they cover a wide variety of subjects on one topic. For example, if you’re creating a 10 article pack on life insurance, you’ll want an article each on all the different types of life insurance policies.
If you’re having trouble coming up with ideas for the different aspects of a topic, use a keyword research tool like Wordtracker to find the popular phrases people are looking for. Like, did you know that 194 people each day are looking up “aarp life insurance.” There’s an article topic right there.
Don’t just limit yourself to articles. Try reports and ebooks as well. On a recent coaching call with Bev Clement, she revealed to me that PLR ebooks only need to be 4000 words or so. I couldn’t believe it! I’d been putting off writing PLR ebooks because I believed that they needed to be as long as the 10,000+ word ghostwritten ebooks I was creating for clients.
Also, keep in mind that you have a license to the PLR content as well. You can rewrite your own PLR content for use on your own sites or use them for article marketing. When you write this content, make sure to add extra profitability by reusing it yourself.

Thanks for sharing this info, Courtney. It’s always good to hear of new ways that we can profit from our writing.
Courtney,
I keep seeing the term PLR thrown around, but I don’t think I’m truly understanding what it is. Do you sell the same articles to multiple people or just write on a topic you like and sell the bunch to one person? Maybe you’d be willing to follow this up with a little more in-depth post about what exactly PLR means . . . It sounds intriguing, but something about it makes me leary. Perhaps it’s just because I don’t clearly understand it.
Hi Courtney. Thanks for the informative article. I just wanted to kindly point out that your “Sell Your Writing Now” link does not work.
Hi Sharon, Lorna and Matt! Thanks for stopping by.
Lorna- With PLR content, you write something once and then sell it to many different buyers. I can definitely understand being leary of something that doesn’t make sense to you! Since I’m getitng a lot of readers outside of the Internet marketing world now, I’m going to do an in depth post on PLR basics.
Matt-Thanks for the headsup! I fixed the link.
